Yo guys,
How are ya all?
Big thanks to theResident Rapist Xandier59 for specifically opening a section so I can do this.
Gonna try a new thing for now and recommend some games I enjoyed and see if ya not want to play it as well. Or maybe ya have played it and ya wanna talk to me about it? You wanna recommend a game yourself? Go make your own thread, if ya don't mind. (see Edit at end of post)ya scrub......I kid, I kid, ya can add to this, no need to clutter up the forum. Bear in mind that I have not really written reviews and such before, so if it sucks, ya just have to suck it up. And maybe tell me, so I can it do better next time.
So, let's start, shall we?
For opening week, we have one of my all-time favorites:
1994's Metroid 3, aka Super Metroid, made by Nintendo and released on the good old Super Nintendo (SNES). And in my opinion, still the best out of all of them.
Instead of me telling ya about the story, how about I just spam pictures from the opening sequence to give ya the premise of the game? Ya don't want pictures? Why not? It's much easier on my poor fingers...
Sounds interesting? Ya wanna play the game already? Fantastic!!! Ya won't regret it. But just in case, I will talk about it some more. "Why?" ya ask me? Well, because I can....
You play as Samus Aran, an intergalactic bounty hunter, and your current mission is to protect the galaxy at all costs. Though I think nobody actually gave you that mission, ya just took it upon yourself. If ya have ever played a Metroid game, ya will know how it works, if ya never played any, I will explain. Just because I'm such a nice guy. Sometimes.
You start out with just a scrubby little Power Beam gun, and a simple but still awesome Power Suit. Now, if ya only had these things, the game would be shit, but lucky for us, the designers thought it would be really awesome if we could actually upgrade our equipment. Thus begins yer quest to find these upgrades, meaning ya will have to travel around and explore to find them. Which in itself is not very exciting, so the designers also thought it would be real neat to throw some bad guys into your path. I mean, ya have a gun, so why not use it? Bad guys and exploring is still not enough for ya? Have some (simple) puzzles, just because.
Now, to aid your explorative (is that even a word?) tendencies, the game will provide you with a simple map system that auto-updates itself. It won't show everything, though, and a lot of stuff ya will still have to remember yourself, such as, was I able to open this path, or am I still missing a crucial upgrade? Where was I supposed to go? Why does this game suck so much.... It also won't show ya all the hidden passages and secrets the game has to offer, so if ya want to see everything and get a nice 100% completion, use the internet. Ummm, I mean, explore more....
A neat feature of the game is how it subtly holds your hand as you play, but never tells you outright what ya have to do. A lot of the experience ya will get from this still depends on yerself, and it will definitely not tell ya all the cool tricks ya can do, apart from one. So if ya wanna do all this awesome stuff, ya will need to experiment a bit, or again, use the internet. Though ya never need any of these mysterious unexplained techniques to finish the game, it's perfectly doable without.
Coming back to the bad guys I mentioned earlier, ya say "Why are they all small?". Why is there no super massive badass boss? Well, amazingly, they didn't forget about that, either, so I guess you are screwed. Literally, some bosses in this game will screw ya over at least once, until ya figure out how best to tackle the problem at hand. Bot if ya can beat all of them without dying, kudos, because I couldn't.
Another thing that could be a bit annoying is that at some stages (like once or twice), ya really might end up not knowing where to go next because the game won't hold yer hand for the one bit ya actually might need it. Now, some guys/gals are pro-gamers and will figure it out, but some might be stumped for a little while. But it's not a problem, since we live in the wonderful age of digital information. And actually, thinking about it a bit, small hints will be dropped beforehand, so it's up to yerself really if ya get stuck or not.
Now, let's talk about graphics, since I know that games nowadays are all about graphics, screw gameplay. Who needs gameplay when ya can have amazing-looking grass that ya can't see anyway? But now, seriously, the looks for it's time were fairly good, ya had some real nice details in some parts, though overall they are nothing to write home about. But for most of the game, the visuals fit. Not to mention the music that goes with it. Ya know what? I actually will talk about the music, but I do it in the next paragraph.
Music, music, music, man, ya won't believe how much I love the soundtrack to this. When I first played this back when it came out, I thought, hmm, the music is pretty decent. That opening them alone is worth it for me (so much so that I don't even skip the logos, and ya shouldn't, either), the way it flows with visuals is well done and sets the mood nicely. Then I got to a certain area, and my ears have never heard such beautiful and fitting music. Well, they might have, I'm just exaggerating now. But these two songs have stayed with me ever since then, and going slightly off here now, imagine my surprise when I heard the songs remastered/remixed for Metroid Prime 2. Ya won't believe how happy I was to hear such glory in not 16 bits.
Hmmm, what else can I say about this??

Nothing more I guess.
If this review sounded exciting to you, why not use the internet to (illegally) obtain a copy and (legally) an emulator, and play it a bit? I'm sure that if ya like action/adventure games, ya will have a good time with this. If ya won't have a good time, well, then I apologize for wasting your time. Which reminds me, time ya will spend playing is probably going to be around 3 hours maybe. I'm actually not sure how long it will take. Though I know my best time is 1 hour and 27 minutes, but I played the game lots of times. Still slow though compared to some times I've seen. I think the record is somewhere around 30 minutes...but I am not that hardcore.
Now, bonus part for those that finished the game.
There also is a hacking/modding community for this game, it is small, but active. And my lord, the mods they bring out for this game. Some are just minor like small physics or control changes, but there is also some major ones that redesign the game completely, essentially giving ya the same engine, but a totally new experience. Some are aimed at casuals, while the hardass pro-gamer is also catered for. Small 10 minute version of the game? Sure, no problem, here, take this. Ya want more than 3 hours? Ya want to play for 10 hours or more? Here, take that one instead. It's too easy ya say? Why not try this? It will make you cry. If ya want some personal recommendations about which ones ya should try if ya so choose, ask me, and I will tell ya. I even tell ya why ya should play that one. Don't worry, it won't be as long.
That's it for this weeks wall of text, now go play some Super Metroid and save the galaxy from the evil Space Pirates.
Edit: Actually, let's clutter up the forum, not because I don't want ya to post stuff in here, but because it will make it much easier for everybody not having to look through many pages just to find something. And it will be much easier for ye to also see whenever I put up a new recommendation.(Probably I will do one every Thursday, or at least that is the plan.)
Plus, just because I am awesome, I also fixed some spellings and maybe some grammerings.
How are ya all?
Big thanks to the
